RUGBY’S HEDGEHOGS

Warwickshire Wildlife Trust has been encouraging people to send in their hedgehog sightings since 2013. To date we have collected over 400 sightings of hedgehogs from within the borough of Rugby. Sightings of hedgehogs either alive or tragically killed on the road, are a vital part of our conservation work, helping us to discover the areas which they are using and highlight areas which need further investigation.

We are aiming to enhance our understanding of Rugby’s landscape for hedgehogs throughout the Rugby HIA project. If you see a hedgehog then please record it on our sightings page.

THE VISION

We aim to empower local Rugby communities to take action and help conserve their hedgehogs. We hope to engage communities, to encourage citizen science to help us map and monitor hedgehogs in Rugby, and to improve habitat for our hedgehogs to roam across.

THE SURVEYS

Surveys will soon be taking place across the borough to reveal areas being used, and those not being used, by hedgehogs. Using a variety of methods including tunnels to capture hedgehog footprints, camera traps and surveys of garden boundaries, we hope to gain a detailed picture of the landscape for Rugby’s hedgehogs.
